Robert Kirkman discusses how Invincible will leverage the universe to tell a different kind of story and the impending Angstrom Levy war on the show.

Despite exploring the universe before it was widely accepted in popular culture, Robert Kirkman, the creator of the series, is unconcerned about sliding into any Hollywood story traps with Invincible.

The Invincible executive producer discussed his comic adaptation’s multiverse aspirations and how it hopes to differentiate itself in a post-Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse world in an interview with The Ringer. According to Kirkman, “Look at all this fun stuff we can pull in from other dimensions!” seems to be the premise of most multiverse fiction. These are every character you were familiar with from previous films. These are all the facets of the character that are not available for exploration in this dimension. It’s entertaining, and I adore those films, but it consists of a disorganised collection of awkward elements and grows rather large.”

Even the Spider-Verse films, he added, have an excessive amount of “different things getting thrown at you.” In contrast, he defined the universe of Invincible as an expansion of the season as “a character-focused story.” The Angstrom Levy plot and his multiverse access are really merely meant to hint to aspects of Mark’s personality that we might not be able to perceive right now but that are definitely there.”

Furthermore, Kirkman noted that when he wrote Invincible, comic book readers were accustomed to the multiverse as a narrative device. However, because of contemporary multiverse projects, such as Spider-Man: No Way Home and Everything Everywhere All at Once, the idea has become widely accepted for readers who are not comic book readers. He saw it this way: “Without the show, we would have to explain what we’re doing to a large audience, which puts us in a terrific position. “Well, there’s a theory of the multiverse, and various aspects operate in this manner,” and so on. But because of all these earlier films, the audience knows exactly what we’re doing and is well-versed in it, so we can simply go right in and deliver the tale we want to tell, just like we did with the comics.”

Levy’s (Sterling K. Brown) objective and the concept of alternative universes were given a lot of attention in the second season opener; a new teaser teased him and Invincible (Steven Yeun) engaging in combat across multiple dimensions. Despite casting Spider-Man voice actor Josh Keaton in an as-yet-unknown role, Kirkman previously blasted down the concept of an Invincible/Spider-Man crossover, as seen in the comics. A brief peek of a new Invincible variant was also shown in the teaser, possibly hinting at the events of the multiverse-themed Invincible War arc in the comic book.
There Will Be More Omni-Man in Upcoming Episodes

The first playable guest character in Mortal Kombat 1 was Omni-Man from Invincible, who appeared in a recent interdimensional crossover. Voice actor J.K. Simmons revealed that Omni-Man, who hasn’t been seen much in season 2, will play a bigger part when the animated series returns for season 3.
New Invincible season 2 episodes release Thursdays on Prime Video.
